Le jour du panda! - Panda Day!
Do you know what happens when you cross a black bear with a zebra? You get a giant baby panda ! You won't believe it, but this morning we went to the Chengdu Giant Panda reproduction base. In case you don't know much about this fantastic animal, I will give you certain information.
First of all, the panda is an endangered species for 4 reasons. The male and female only get together once a year. The mother will not have another baby while it is raising a baby. If a female has twins, it will abandon the weaker of the two, since she can only take care of one baby at a time. Finally, urbanization, due to the growing population, is shrinking the panda's habitat. Other information: the pandas were living at the same time as the sabre tooth tiger. Oddly, they are one of the few animals who has survived that long. They call pandas living fossils. Even though they are of the bear family, pandas are on a parallel branch to the modern bear.
A panda can eat up to 1/4 of its weight per day. His main food is bamboo. Even if he is vegetarian, his teeth and digestive system is that of a carnivore. This mammal can go to the bathroom 120-150 times per day. Unlike Kung fu Panda, the giant panda climbs trees, eats, sleeps, and goes to the bathroom all day long.
We saw them playing and eating in their pen. It was funny to see them run towards their bamboo pile. As soon as they came out, everybody took out their cameras. Watching the pandas eat, I noticed they had human expressions and the more their meal advanced, they would lie on their backs and let the bark of the bamboo fall on their belly.
I will now describe an animal you probably never heard of: the red panda. This animal is also endangered. Even if they share a name, the red panda and the giant panda are two very different animals. The red panda is the size of a racoon and the color of a fox. He has a long, stripped tail, while the giant panda has a small one. This small mammal often climbs trees and will aggressively defend its territory. The red panda is not a teddy bear like the giant panda.
After this remarkable day, you will understand when I say that the giant panda is officially my new favorite animal!
